In 1972, Yes released its fifth studio album. Following on the success of the previous album (Fragile), this new album pushed the band's music to the boundaries of the rock style. Aptly titled Close to the Edge, the record was praised by critics, adored by fans, and is still considered by many to be the band's finest achievement. The title tracks runs an entire album side, unfolding a dramatic musical journey that features angular rhythms, church organ, and electric sitar, all set to lyrics influenced in part by Hermann Hesse's novel, Siddhartha. "And You And I" alternates lush keyboards and acoustic guitars in a multi-part suite of symphonic sweep. "Siberian Khatru" gives rise to the musical question, what is a "khatru" anyway? In celebration of this classic album, Going for the One will be featuring Close to the Edge during the 2011-12 season, performing the album in its entirety and in running order at designated shows, along with other tracks drawn from The Yes Album, Fragile, Going for the One, and Tormato. ![]() Going for the One is America's premier Yes tribute, celebrating the music of one of rock history's most important and inspired bands. ![]() |
